Camping supplies – the pantry

My husband’s and my first camping trip was with a tent and a bag of chips.  Needless to say we were not prepared!  We now have it down to a science.  Every year we pull our our totes and take stock of everything and then head to the store with a list of items we need to replace.  I thought this year as I pulled out 2 of our totes that I would share what we take as a family.

For our pantry we have 2 medium totes that hold everything food/non-perishable type items.  I label them with masking tape and permanent marker so that all I have to do is scan the list to see what is in each one while we are camping and so that I have a list to run through every year as well.

Most of the items are things we either had one or more of or items that we replaced at the house and took the older item camping.  For example older dish towels get relegated to the camping bins if they have tears in them.  Old cutlery with water stains, Swiss army knives that aren’t allowed on planes, etc.

Here’s the list for one of the totes:

  • First aid kit
  • knives (sharp)
  • knife sharpener
  • matches
  • lighter
  • j-cloths
  • dish towels
  • bleach
  • dish soap (camping soap)
  • scissors
  • bag clips
  • serving spoons
  • tongs
  • can opener
  • peeler
  • SOS pad
  • table cloth clamps
  • cutting boards
  • cheese grater
  • grill
  • toaster
  • wax paper
  • plastic wrap
  • aluminum foil
  • oven mitts
  • bags (large & kitchen garbage & ziploc)
  • tablecloth
  • suntan lotion
  • ditty bags for drying dishes
  • bug spray

The second one contains:

  • Coffee
  • White sugarBrown sugar
  • salt & pepper
  • spices
  • tea/cider/hot chocolate
  • oatmeal
  • pasta – spaghetti
  • marshmallows
  • pancake mix
  • pam – cooking spray
  • Nutella/PB
  • napkins
  • coffee filters
  • coffee bodum
  • syrup
  • mugs
  • measuring cups
  • plates
  • paper towels
  • soup/chili
  • cereal
  • cutlery

These are the items that remain in the totes all camping season and what we consider our pantry items.  What does your family bring along for pantry items?
