When we did it last I carried my son in our MEC child carrier along with about 10lbs in the bag – so 30lbs was a bit of a challenge, especially with me being out of shape! My daughter had a backpack of her own. Her gear consisted of: a hat, sunglasses, snack trap with GORP (well kiddie version – cheerios, raisins & marshmallows) and a water hydration pack which she though was pretty cool!
She starting complaining 20 minutes into the hike – “I am not a good little hiker mommy”…we had to pull out the snacks early on to get her going…
We made it to the lake and had a snack –
a peanut butter sandwich, attracting a little visitor:
Perhaps he was the crasher squirrel just looking for another photo op!
This is one of our favorite hikes with the kids since the lake really is breathtaking and since it’s a close enough drive and under 3 hours return it makes a perfect day trip with the kids.
