Last month, I posted about the Lake Louise Ice Magic Festival, and I wanted to follow-up with a recap of this year’s event. As in previous years, this event was no disappointment! Thanks to a well-timed Chinook, the crowds were a bit larger than we’ve seen in years past, though everyone seemed to be having a great time, despite the lack of wiggle room.
This year’s theme was Magical Madness, and is was fun to see how the competitors interpreted this theme with their giant blocks of ice. Some of the sculptures were quite mythical, with fairies, mermaids and various winged creatures. A Harry Potter themed sculpture and a rabbit pulling a person out of his hat were also on display.
One activity that we were able to participate in for the first time this year was the Little Chippers Festival. Hannah had so much fun carving her own sculpture, and the coupons for free coffee and hot chocolate were much appreciated in the chilly weather. Next year we are hoping to add to our itinerary and bring our skates and jump on a sleigh ride.
If you have never been out to this yearly event, I highly recommend it. Mark your calendars for next year’s festival, taking place January 20-22, 2012.
