Lake Louise Ice Magic Festival

by Sharon

If you’re looking for a winter activity that will truly transport you into a Winter Wonderland, look no further than the Lake Louise Ice Magic Festival.  This year’s completion, themed “Magical Madness” is being held January 21-23, at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.

We’ve trekked out several times to this free yearly event, and it never disappoints!  Throughout the weekend, there are speed carving competitions, magic shows, carving demonstrations, and much more.  In previous years, there have also been horse-drawn carriage rides, and ice skating on the lake, so don’t forget to pack along your skates…just in case.

Once you arrive at Lake Louise, plan to dress warm and in layers.  We found it handy when Hannah was younger to pull her around on a sled.  Also, bring your camera! Some of our best family photos have been taken by complete strangers at this event!  In the past, parking has been tight at the lake itself, so you may want to take advantage of the courtesy shuttles that run every 30 minutes from the Samson Mall.

As you will see from the posted schedule, there is a lot to do.  We’ve always gone out for just one day, but this year we are planning on staying out in the mountains overnight to fully participate in the activities.  I’ll be sure to post a follow-up about where we stayed and what other adventures we had along the way!

See you at the Lake!
