Having Fun While Getting Fit

by Sharon

If you’re like me, two things that likely popped up on your New Year’s Resolution list are to get in shape and spend more time with your child/children.  Thanks to a new Wii game that my daughter received for Christmas, I can now do both!

Nickelodeon Fit is a new Wii game aimed to get children of all ages up and moving.  Many of the 30 games allow you to use a Wii Fit board, though you can always select to use just the remote if you want.  One of the features that I love most is that the game features characters from Nickelodeon’s more educational shows, The Backyardigans, Dora, Diego, and Ni-Hao Kai-Lan.  The exercises vary from skipping rope with The Backyardigans to Hula Hooping with Dora.  There are also two games that feature all of the characters.

We’ve had our Wii and Wii Fit for several years, and Hannah has always wanted to participate.  The problem we’ve had is that she is too lightweight for the Wii Fit to register all of her movements and she was often getting frustrated.  This new game re-calibrates the Wii Fit to a lighter weight.  Even at 30 pounds, she can fully participate in all of the activities.

This game is great for parents too.  I recently did the round robin challenge with her, and was wiped out afterwards.  The system allows for eight different profiles, and tracks each one’s progress, BMI, and total play time.  It also awards silver and gold medals based on scores, and players are rewarded with ribbons and new games the more they play.   Hannah thinks it is funny that she has more ribbons and trophies in her awards case than I do!!

Retailing around $40, I truly feel that it is worth every penny.  Hannah and I have played it every day since she got it, and she asks every morning to do our exercises, rather than watch TV in the morning.  Another helpful accessory is the new Icon Kid Remote Playchuk Bundle.  This mini remote and nunchuk combo is the perfect size for little hands.  This product retails for $30, and comes in pink or green.

Nothing can compare to getting outside and exercising in the fresh air, but Nickelodeon Fit helps you stay active…even in your jammies!!

Happy Exercising!!
